If Arrested, Should I Give A Statement?

The short and sweet answer is NO!!! Approximately ninety percent of the time, giving a statement only makes things worse. Simply say that you want to speak to an attorney and keep your mouth shut. They will not beat you or starve you (most of the time). They may try to convince you that it’s in your best interest to talk, but they are lying. Stay quiet and wait for an attorney to guide you.

Most people think the truth will set them free and they blab away. Others believe the arresting officer’s nonsense that he/she will put in a good word with the District Attorney, and they make an admission, thereby placing the proverbial rope around their own neck. Do yourself a favor and zip the lip. Anything and everything you say can and will be used against you in court. Words that you think will help often end up hurting your case.
